A 15th-century poet, mystic, and social reformer, Kabir is one of the most influential voices in Indian spiritual and literary history. His verses—simple yet profound couplets known as dohas—challenge divisions of religion, caste, and identity, offering a universal message rooted in love, truth, and inner reflection. Influenced by both Bhakti and Sufi traditions, Kabir’s work transcends boundaries and continues to resonate across cultures and generations, with his poetry even preserved in the Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. His words remain as relevant today as they were over 500 years ago.

On Sunday, March 29 at 5 PM, at Zilkha Hall, The Hobby Center, the Anirudh Varma Collective brings this legacy to life through a dynamic and immersive musical experience. Known for their innovative approach, the collective seamlessly blends contemporary instrumentation with classical Indian motifs, creating rich, layered soundscapes that bridge tradition and modernity. Their work has been celebrated for reimagining Indian classical music for global audiences while staying deeply rooted in its essence.

Joining the ensemble is acclaimed vocalist Bhuvanesh Komkali, whose artistry is shaped by an extraordinary musical lineage. As the grandson of the legendary Kumar Gandharva, one of the most pioneering figures in Hindustani classical music, Komkali carries forward a legacy of innovation and depth. His expressive and introspective vocal style brings emotional nuance and authenticity to Kabir’s poetry, creating a powerful connection between tradition and lived experience.

Also featured is Kavish Seth, a poet, singer, and composer who represents a bold and contemporary voice in Indian music. The son of renowned vocalist Kavita Seth, Kavish has carved a unique artistic identity, most notably through the creation of the Noori, an original 18-string instrument that blends melodic richness with percussive elements. His work explores new sonic territories while remaining deeply rooted in poetic expression, offering audiences a fresh and evolving interpretation of Kabir’s timeless message
